Traditional Furniture

Kumusha Gallery carries an exclusive range of old Ethiopian furniture and traditional household pieces. Timber is readily available in the Highlands of Ethiopia and used extensively for tools, utensils and furniture. The "Jimma" and "Wollega Oromo" people are perhaps the most famous for their elaborately carved wood works which are highly prized by collectors worldwide.

Stools or chairs have three out turned legs, some have arms. Usually the back and arms are decorated by the cutting of holes in geometric patterns. These pieces are each carved out of a single piece of timber and are becoming very hard to source even in Ethiopia!

Contemporary Furniture

Kumusha Gallery carries a range of small furniture items. These include wine cabinets, CD cabinets, magazine racks, bathroom stands, coffee tables, sidetables, and hall tables. Each piece is highly distinctive, some pieces being made from recycled railway sleeper. Other pieces incorporate traditional Tsonga doors.
